A great day with the Elephant Family of the Addo National Park.

13th of July 2018

Sorry about being so far behind with my blog but I am limited by the lack and strength of the Wifi connection I am able to get.😳

Today we spent the whole day at the Addo Elephant National Park self driving our way around many tracks and covered around 120 kilometres during the day. We probably saw upwards of 100 elephants🐘 as well as lots of buffalo, zebraπŸ¦“, mongoose, Kudu, Eland, lots of Pumbas (warthog), guinea fowl and lots of other birds.

At one stage we came around a corner to be confronted by a Kombi going in reverse and then up ahead of him was a big bull elephant coming towards us. The driver backed past me and I thought it prudent to start doing the same but after about 100 metres the elephant turned off the road and into the scrub so we could continue again! Back at the main gate we asked if this situation happened again what should we do and the answer was to just stop and let him go past, so now we know for next time!

Do I stop and let him go past or do I put it in reverse and get out of his way?

It was a fantastic day in a really well maintained park and with so many animals to see the day just flew past. Back at camp we started with Sundowners of Gin and Tonics and then put a family size Lamb and Mint pie that Veronica had bought the day before into our Weber Baby Q along with some roast pumpkin and cauliflower. I had bought a Weber iGrill which is a temperature probe that is linked to my iPhone and when it hit 100 celsius we took the pie out and it was perfect. We consumed it with another bottle of Fat Bastard Cabernet Sauvignon!
